The automotive industry is stepping on the brakes. Exports are also likely to have consequences

20.07.2021

The latest data from AutoSAP clearly show that the production of passenger cars is slowing down significantly. It was even slightly lower in June than in the same month last year (-0.8%), when it was basically only recovering from outages in the first wave of the pandemic. A similar development can be seen in Germany, where car production in June even decreased by almost a quarter compared to March.

While market demand is clearly - as new order statistics suggest - producers' capacities are increasingly limited this year by a shortage of parts, which according to some reports may persist into next year.

Due to the dominant position of the automotive industry, the reduction in passenger car production will undoubtedly have an adverse effect on the overall results of the entire industry and exports in the coming months. However, the significant slowdown in the industry should be offset by services that are starting to pick up again after the dismantling. Therefore, there is no reason to change the outlook for the economy for the rest of the year.

In any case, this is unfavorable news for suppliers as well, who will also have to prepare for the recently introduced "green" revolution.
